About Exact FlowThe dual-rotor flow meter design was inspired by Boeing’s need to measure fuel consumption more accurately, during the development of the Boeing 777 aircraft. Great emphasis was placed on the accuracy of fuel consumption of the GE 90 engines, which powered the 777. By using the dual-rotor turbine flowmeter, Boeing was able to improve the accuracy to ±0.25% on a mass flow basis and determine the horsepower of the engines. Improved measurable fuel economy allows for longer international flights and guarantees the fuel safety margins required. COX Instruments initiated development of the dual-rotor in 1993. The DR continued its development path and in 1994 found its way to Scottsdale, AZ — giving birth to Exact Flow. Here, many refinements took place to finalize the development of the most accurate and widest flow range turbine flowmeter available to measure fuel and hydrocarbons. Exact Flow is located in the same complex as Flow Dynamics, Inc., an independent NVLAP accredited primary standards flow laboratory. This allowed access to precision primary standard calibrators, which verified the design changes and led Exact Flow into additional measurement capability. These newly discovered measurement attributes resulted in several additional patents, which include auto viscosity, bearing diagnostics and mass flow. Several employees of Exact Flow have more than 20 years of experience in turbine flowmeter technology and its applications. This knowledgeable base of skilled engineers and managers continues to lead Exact Flow into applications beyond the capability of single-rotor turbine flowmeter designs. Many OEM applications have been in the industrial hydrocarbon sector and custody transfer of refined products. Today, the Exact Flow team has developed the most sophisticated turbine flowmeter, which flies on the Lockheed Martin Joint Strike Fighter-STOVL and the Pratt & Whitney X51 Scram Jet. Additional flight projects include the Lockheed F22 Raptor, the Pratt & Whitney F119, and AeroVironment Helios. In addition our meters are commonly used by GE and Williams International to qualify engines. Exact Flow is a subsidiary of COX Instruments, a supplier of precision and industrial flow measurement instrumentation for the world’s most demanding flow applications. Cox Instruments announced April 5, 2010 that it has been acquired by Badger Meter, Inc., a publicly-held corporation and leading manufacturer/marketer of flow measurement and control products, serving water utilities, municipalities and industrial customers worldwide. Flow Dynamics, Inc. (FDI), another COX subsidiary company, was also included in the purchase. Badger Meter’s purchase of COX Instruments, including Flow Dynamics and Exact Flow, provides exceptional product synergy and strengthens our competitive position in the global flow measurement market. The combined organization will benefit customers greatly with additional distribution channels and customer service. |
